Karate Manitoba is currently planning its programs for 2012/13. As part of the process, we are seeking the input from all of the clubs.

This will consist of holding focus groups/workshops where instructors and assistant instructors can come together with the people leading the various programs for Karate Manitoba, including:

  • Coaches development – grassroots and competitive
  • Athlete development – grassroots and competitive
  • Officials development
  • Tournaments
  • Club development

At the first focus group/workshop, we will outline the programs and the amounts we have with the type of activities we are planning. We will also request high-level input from the group on the activities and the projected roll out. The plans will be in an early stage so changes can be made and the input received from these focus groups/workshops will help direct our programs.

The subsequent focus groups/workshops will have look at specific programs to provide support to the clubs, including sport injury management, club emergency action plans, first aid and CPR training.

The first focus group/workshop is scheduled for Jan 22, 2012, with details as follows:

Location: Glenwood Community Club
Date: Sunday, Jan 22, 2012
Time: 12:00 to 2:00 pm
Lunch: Sandwiches and drinks will be provided
Attendance: Club instructor and maximum 2 assistants

  • Review program plans for 2012/13
  • Obtain input and ideas for activities
  • Plan next workshop

We hope to see you there!

5 of our ‘Team Toba’ athletes placed at the KC Nationals:

Brittney Katchin from Bushido-Kai pulled in a bronze medal in Women’s Senior Kumite Black Belt

Jarek Zetterstrom (Midwest EARL GREY), Ruski Sungalon (Midwest EARL GREY), Frank Marr (Midwest Main), & Joe Kryschuk (Midwest THE PAS) pulled in a bronze for Team Kumite

(March 19 & 20, 2011 at KC Nationals in Que)!

Way to go Team Toba!

Team Manitoba Officials

Not only did 5 of our ‘Team Toba’ athletes place with a bronze medal (as per the previous email) but we have two of our officials who have upgraded their officiating rank:

Dan Piché received Level A Judge in Kata and Level B referee in Kumite with 100% score on his written tests. Dan is the instructor for Karate Saint-Boniface.

Eugène Fillion received Level A Judge for both Kata and Kumite with 97% and 98% scores respectively on his written tests. Eugene is a student at Midwest Main.

Both Dan and Eugène judged all 3 days of the National Competition and the Manitoba Team was very proud of their performance.

*A shout out to our two youngest athletes, both from Bushido-Kai Canada, Joe Hrzich & Elaan Grassler for excellent performances at the Nationals, too. Joe was the first Manitoba fighter at the tournament and, by all accounts, Joe set the bar high forcing the other competitors from other provinces to compete hard. Elaan’s kata in training was absolutely of National calibre so we will post more on her and Joe’s achievements and where these two young athletes placed!*

A round of applause to our athletes Elaan Grassler, Joe Hrzich, Brittney Katchin, Joseph Kryschuk, Frank Marr, Ruski Sungalon and Jarek Zetterstrom as well as to Dan Piché and Eugène Fillion but let’s not forget our excellent and dedicated coaches Ron Porath and Angelo Mendoza as well as our Team Manager Jenn Cook and our Team Health & Fitness Coach Kim Ogren. Well done!

Karate Manitoba has ceased events & will not be sanctioning any tournaments until deemed safe.

We are asking all clubs to discontinue classes until advised that it is safe to return to activities by the Province’s health officials. Thank you for understanding. #karatemanitoba https://t.co/biyuqEfsCk
